Dr. Brian Melrose // #ClinicalTuesday // www.ptonice.com

In today's episode of the PT on ICE Daily Show, Spine Division lead faculty Brian Melrose discusses one of the easiest ways to “build the bike” and get solid buy in from our patients when utilizing breath work in the clinic.

As much as we focus on our patients pain or dysfunction when they come to see us at PT, we can offer them so much more regarding lifestyle factors. It’s our hope that PTs focus on sleep, diet, and even stress within a patients plan of care.

When it comes to the utilization of breathing techniques in the clinic one of the greatest challenges can be getting solid patient buy-in. We love using the pulse-Ox to “build the bike” and making these changes VISIBLE. These are easily accessible in the clinic and can be a great objective measure pre and post implementation of a breathing technique to show changes in HR and O2.
